About Mike Rapin

As of today, I am a student at Grand Valley State University. I was raised in in Hudsonville, MI, but am currently living in Allendale, MI. My plans for after graduation are to make my way to being a professional web developer somewhere within the tri-state area of Grand Rapids, MI.

As a student, I strive to achieve excellence--as is the Grand Valley way--by learning and having fun with every class I enroll myself in. I am currently the president of the Comic Book Club at GVSU and am working to grow our club's size every week. I am also involved with GVSU's student run TV station: GVTV. I am currently the writer, co-producer and star of the show "Jeff & Mike Write A Comic Book" as well as the director & writer of the new show, "mat42dr."

As a web developer I specialize in building simple CMS websites for small businesses but in my free time I have worked on many independent projects involving Wordpress, the Twitter API and the Google Maps API. I like to take on challenges in languages I am familiar with (such as reading and outputting RSS feeds in PHP without using built in XML parsers) to further my understanding of that language.

Personal Life

In my free time I am a bit of what some may call a "nerd." I read comic books on a daily basis, and I'm always reading up on the newest Apple, iPhone, or social media news. Of course, I do all of this when I'm not working, in class, at home watching TV or organizing my comic book collection.

In the last year or so, I have come to love writing simple screenplays for TV. I've been highly influenced by Simon Pegg and Jessica Stevenson, the crew from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and various other writers of comedy. I'm a big fan of clever comedies, especially those with very subtle jokes you only catch after rewatching the movie or show again.

In the past, I've worked on a few podcasts with friends, typically revolving around technology and the internet. I was the host of "General Awesomeness, News and Comics," "Twitter Trends Weekly," and "The Fifth Riff." A lot of my voice on those podcasts was as the 'loud-mouth' or 'sarcastic jerk' so please take those podcasts with a grain of salt if you choose to listen to them.

I am typically a very optimistic person. I go into everything I work on with a very good outlook and keep that mentality throughout. I am a very social by nature and am the type of person who sees big picture ideas over short term goals. I work in lists and physical copies of everything and I like to be able to mentally and physically keep track of things.

Overall: that's me.
