Writers guild rant, take 2

HollywoodIf you had any questions as to what the Writers Guild of America strike is about, this video explains it all. Sure, it could be biased (more like ‘probably is biased’), but nevertheless, I’m a liberal and I’ll be supporting those who are in the minority (a great portion of the time) and politics aside, I feel that those damn corporations are being money-grubbing-whores.

In all honesty though, what makes a TV show? Is it the cameras? The actors? The set? No. It’s the writers. Without them, you have no story. Sure, you could say that reality TV has no script and it’s still watchable, but would you prefer The Hills over, say, The Office? Fuck no. Hell no. Damn no. Really, I’d rather not watch TV period than watch The Hills, but my point is that scripted and well thought out TV vastly surpasses mediocre/barely watchable TV. And what about talk shows? (I mean good talk shows like The Daily Show or Late Night with David Letterman, not shows like The View) Where will you get your comedic news from?

Blah blah blah… movies are affected too, but how many GOOD movies have come out in the last 5 years? I mean, like actually original, well written movies: maybe 10. Maybe. We need those writers for those great movies, however scarce they may be. Without them, we’ll be stuck with shitty Daddy Day Care sequels and mind numbing Rob Zombie films. May the apocalypse rain down upon us before that day comes

Sharing is caringAgain, I stick to my proposal to pirate every and all forms of TV and movies until this strike is done with. Don’t use iTunes or Amazon to download TV shows. Pirate them. Don’t go to Best Buy or Target for DVDs. Pirate them. Don’t even watch shows online from NBC or any other website (unless you know it’s illegal or there are no ads), because even you seeing those mini-ads or accidentally clicking on an ad-link means those bastards at the big-bad-corporations get a penny more. Just pirate it all. And for movies, you know what to do… Pirate them.

Sure, I sound like a hippie talking about ‘the corporations are bad man… like seriously… yea… like, yea… hey, you got any pot?’ but in this case, it’s true: the corporations are the bad guys.

And I’m done.
