Marvel comics coming to the iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad?

I'm reading 10,000 times into this and I'm far from a reputable source, but! one little tweet this morning from a "higher up" gives me an indicator that Marvel may be pushing comics to the iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad medium.

Here's the tweet I read:

I think I want an iPod touch now.

- Jeff Suter, Senior Art Director @Marvel, permalink

The thing that gets me is that there's no explanation to the tweet and then shortly after, we get this:

OK, rush job in hand... digitally of course. SECRET rush job that is!

- Jeff Suter, permalink

So what does this all mean? I know people from Marvel are always tweeting "ooh this is a secret!" but I think this may be something to think about. Marvel (well, Disney) striking a deal with Apple to put comics on the iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad? Perhaps through the Book Store app? Who knows. We will see. I'm waiting for all the cool stuff to get announced after the iPad launch *cough*March 26*cough*.

PS. Then I found this link that was published on February 2, 2010. Talk about crazy.

I bought my first real DC comic(s) yesterday

Despite my normally going to the comic shop on Wednesday to pick up comics, I hit up the comic shop a total of three times this week.

Why? Well because 1) Tommy asked me to go on Tuesday, 2) Wednesday was new-comic-book-day and 3) Amra/Jared/Tommy wanted to go on Saturday.

So there I was, at Tardy's and the four of us has been looking around at comics for a good 45 minutes or so talking it up and such when, as everyone was seriously ready to leave, I notice something... I noticed DC's Justice Society of America Kingdom Come tie-in for Superman.

Immortal Iron Fist #17 review

I’ve been reading Immortal Iron Fist since the current series began and I have dug it a lot. It’s probably one of my favorite series right now (next to X-Factor and Invincible) and this week I was just blown away.

Given that Matt Fraction ended his run with issue #16–which I was dumb and somehow didn’t realize–I was a tad skeptical at how this new arc was going to take off. Lucky for me, it ended up being fucking amazing and it seriously blew my mind. From what I’ve been hearing from Comic Con in San Diego, Matt Fraction and Ed Brubaker (who co-wrote the first 16 issues together) are saying their series is going to look lame compared to what is coming from Duane Swierczynski in the near future… Really with one issue in I can already see it getting amazing. (Although, I loved the tournament from Fraction and Brubakers run).

Supreme Power review of what I own

As I mentioned before, I was reading J. Michael Straczynski’s Supreme Power and I was damn impressed. Last week, I finished the actual Supreme Power series (issues #1-18) and I moved on to the side stories after the very dramatic and skin devouring ending to the series. I purchased the trade paperbacks back when I went to Wizard World Chicago at some discount booth and I really am glad I bought them. Let me just say that the series ended up being way better than I thought I could have been and I loved Straczynski’s take on the possible craziness of the DC universe.

But enough of that, let’s talk about the greatness of what I read.

Marvel 1985 #3 – a late review/praise

In case you didn’t know, I like Mark Millar. And since Marvel 1985 has been coming out monthly I have been creaming in my proverbial pants every month over how amazing this series has been going. The story is so suspenseful (in my mind) in that it just keeps you asking, “What could happen next?” Mark Millar knows how to keep you guessing and this title is an obvious example at how incredible his unpredictable stories are.

Let me give you more of my reaction after the break with some spoilers because I can’t explain how amazing this comic was without spoiling it all.

Invincble: The Series

OMG Guys. This is some serious news…. to me. Robert Kirkman’s unbelievably amazing comic book Invincible is being turned into an animated series. Thanks to the guys over at Comic Book Resources I found this gem of a story and boy am I excited.

This series made me love non-Marvel/DC titles along with Kirkman’s The Walking Dead (both The Walking Dead and Incincible are on Image comics). The tale of your everyday kid named Mark Grayson who’s dad happens to be a super-hero which means… you guessed it: he’s a super hero too. This series takes off almost immediately and holy damn guys, the trailer for this just looks fantastic. Check it out on the official site.

This week: Amazing Spider-Man #566

Guys and gals! Did you hear the news?! Amazing Spider-Man is coming out 3 times a month and we’re only on issue two of this month!! Holy moly! What kind of mischief is going to fall down upon our favorite webslinger this week? Part one of Kraven’s First Hunt titled “Breakdown” was quite out of nowhere, but that’s what makes it fun… right? Part two is this week and wowee I’m ready!

The craziness that happened last week with everyone’s favorite Peter Parker in the mix, the internet (aka Marvel.com) is saying that this week we are surely in for a treat! Spider-Man is on his way to having a whole slew of villains on his butt including Mr. Negative, Kraven, and our new mystery girl who is apparently “the person who is going to kill Spider-Man.” This story is nothing outside of straight up crazy!

Supreme Power #1-12

I’ve been meaning to read Supreme Power for the last year and a half and somehow I just never go around to it. Lucky for me, I managed to pick up the three trade paperbacks of the main series when I was at Wizard World Chicago, so I decided to start reading the first TPB and ended up flying through it followed by the 2nd and boy was I impressed! J. Michael Straczynski can seriously write a badass story and the art by Gary Frank is simply amazing. A great combo if you ask me.

This story is Marvel’s second rendition of the original Squadron Supreme, which had it’s basis on DC’s famous heroes back in Avengers #85. It’s all fun stuff, but you can read the wikipedia article if you want more info on that series.

Future comic book reads

I don’t know what it is, but whenever I see Nick blogging, I always feel the need to blog. Nick, do you feel the same way? haha

Anyways, my real post:

I haven’t read any comics in a few days (I finished my weeklies on Saturday) and it’s because 1) I’m lazy, 2) My girlfriend is around and 3) I’ve been way too tired to read (those are in no real order). But I want to let you guys know what I’m looking forward to read that I will (hopefully) be getting too in the near future and will, in turn, blog about. Most of this stuff is just what I’ve gotten a hold of and just want to read for fun and has no dealings with continuity or major plots or anything. Just fun stuff in vague/very interested sumary:

Chris Claremont and X-Treme X-Men part 3

Ah ladies and gents, I’m through issue #18 and that mean another update on my X-Treme X-Men reading.

As a reminder, I’m spoiling this series as I talk about my reaction, so watch out (even though the series is about 8 years old).

So far I’m having a lot of fun with this series in a sense that Chris Claremont seems to be batshit crazy when it comes to story arcs. Moving from Vargas killing Psylocke to Gambit becoming some tool of inter-dimensional imperialists (with some minor arcs in there — I’m not following the wikipedia page I’m reading in order of the comics I have #1-46) this series has been pretty good. I really do like Chris Claremont’s plots, but, as I’ve said, he just goes on and on with the narration.

I’ve been meaning to write about this for a while, and let me just say it right now: Warren Ellis pretty much summed up exactly how I feel about writers like Chris Claremont at Wizard World Chicago when he had his late night panel on Friday. He was explaining that sometimes writers don’t know when to shut the hell up and let the art tell the story. And it’s funny because someone in the crowd actually called out and said “Could you tell Chris Claremont?” I wish I could have been there.
